Devon is conveniently located 10 minutes away from the Edmonton International Airport, Canada’s fastest growing airport with non-stop routes to 50 domestic, US and international destinations. Port Alberta is staged to become the new gateway for cargo into North America, combining air, rail, and road transportation infrastructure at a single point. Cargo services available to AirLINKS Business Park include 11 airlines, eight integrated couriers/freighter carriers, three independent cargo handlers, more than 40 freight forwarders and customs brokers and six cargo-handling terminals (including 3 with coolers/freezers).
Two major transportation corridors, highway 19 and 60, provide Devon access to the Edmonton International Airport, Nisku which boasts the world’s largest oilfield Industrial Park. These corridors see upwards of 60,000 vehicles daily. 20 minutes north on highway 60, resides Acheson Industrial Park, located within key transportation corridors including rail.
The Town has been working hard to bring public transit opportunities to Devon and provide residents with a new option for connecting with employment opportunities, post-secondary education or shopping and entertainment in the Edmonton area.
In January 2020, Town of Devon Council voted to join a Regional Transit Services Commission, a group of Edmonton Metropolitan Region municipalities with a similar goal – to find affordable and efficient transit for their communities.
In January 2021, this Commission received approval from the Government of Alberta to legally form. The municipalities included in the newly formed Edmonton Metropolitan Transit Services Commission (EMTSC) include Devon, Edmonton, Spruce Grove, Stony Plain, Beaumont, Leduc, St. Albert, and Fort Saskatchewan. The EMTSC is currently aiming to bring a regional transit model that would service all eight municipalities by the fall of 2022.
In the meantime, the Town is working with the Edmonton Transit Service (ETS) to bridge this gap and offer transit for Devon residents this as early as summer 2021. Learn more here.
