In partnership with the Town of Devon FCSS, the Devon Lions Club would like to invite parents with children aged 5 months to 12 years old to a free eye screening.

Date: Wednesday, September 4, 2024
Time: 4:00 - 8:00 p.m.
Location: Devon Community Centre - Dan Claypool Room

The first few years of a child's life are critical in the development of good vision. Children should have their vision checked for issues such as misaligned eyes, and problems that need correction with eyeglasses. These problems are not always evident by simply looking at a child. Young children often compensate for vision problems so well that parents, teachers, and pediatricians are unaware of a problem. Many common vision robbing conditions such as “lazy eye" can be effectively treated if detected in a child's formative years.

Lions Eye Care We Care Vision Screening Program is a community service program providing a simple non-invasive and cost-free vision screening test performed on young children. It requires no medication or preparation and is PAINLESS. It is as simple as taking a picture.

Please note that this event requires a Parent/Guardian permission signature.

Lions Eye Care We Care Vision Screening Program screens for the following:

Myopia- means that an individual can see things 110K" from short distances and close-up, but has trouble focusing on distant objects. (Near sighted ness)

Hyperopia- means that an individual can see things 110K" from far away, but has trouble focusing on things up close, such as reading a book. (Far sighted ness)

Astigmatism- will cause blurred vision at any distance. This has to do with the shape of the cornea of the eye which will not allow the light entering the eye to focus at the correct point.

Anisometropia- a condition in which the refractive power of one eye differs from that of the other.

Anisocoria- a condition characterized by a variance in pupil size greater than 1mm. Affecting 20% of the population, it can be an entirely harmless condition or a symptom of more serious medical problems.

Strabismus- means that the eye has a strabismus which is an eye turn. The eye with the turn can be either up, down, left, or right. This can be a precursor for amblyopia (lazy eye) which affect 3 - 5% of children.
