Habitat protection is vital to ensuring birds’ continued presence in our urban areas. With urbanization continuing and climate events becoming more frequent, ensuring there is adequate, high quality habitat in our communities becomes even more important. While there is plenty of work to do in this area, Devon has already put a lot of effort into supporting biodiversity and working towards climate resiliency.
Restoring native plant habitat is vital to preserving biodiversity. By creating a native plant garden, each patch of habitat becomes part of a collective effort to nurture and sustain the living landscape for birds and other animals.
The Town of Devon has done a lot of planning in the environmental protection and sustainability areas. Our natural green spaces: river valley and ravines are a huge attraction to residents and visitors. Learn more at:

There are several species in our area that are endangered or at risk. These include the Purple Martin, Swallows, Blue Birds and Bees.
Bees pollinate both our crops and wild plants, providing us with one-third of the food we eat and allowing wild plants to reproduce and produce the berries, fruits, seeds and other plant foods that form the base of the natural food web. Loss of bee populations poses a significant risk to both our agricultural system as well as the ecosystem that supports other wildlife.
There are a number of ways to help reduce the danger to these species. To learn more about these “at risk” species and how you can help species go to:
