After following the appropriate court process, Ms. Anita Fisher has been officially disqualified from Council for the Town of Devon and her position will remain vacant until the 2025 municipal election.

In February 2024, the Town of Devon applied to the court for Ms. Fisher's disqualification based on Section 147 (b.1)(d) of the Municipal Government Act. This section stipulates that a councillor may be disqualified if they are absent from all regular council meetings during any period of eight consecutive weeks, starting from the first missed meeting. Ms. Fisher's last attendance at a council meeting was in September 2023.

"As councillors, we have a duty to our community to be present and engaged, ensuring that we make well-informed decisions on behalf of our residents," said Mayor Craddock. "While we are disappointed that Ms. Fisher was unable to fulfill this responsibility over the past year, I have known her for a long time and believe she cares deeply about Devon. Her contributions as a past Mayor and Council member are appreciated. On behalf of Council, I extend our best wishes to her in the future."

Given that less than 18 months remain until the next municipal election, as per the Municipal Government Act, a by-election will not be held to fill the vacant seat.

Devon's next municipal election is scheduled for October 2025.
