2238 Community Events Program to promote safe driving habits and mental wellness with sweet treats Candy Cane Checkstops will return this December as Devon’s emergency services partner with Devon Family and Community Support Services (FCSS) to relaunch this positive program. Look for members of Devon’s Community Peace Officers (CPOs), RCMP, Fire Services and FCSS out on the Town’s main streets throughout December as they share sweet candy cane treats through a voluntary checkstop. The Candy Cane Checkstop program started in Devon back in 2018 with the goal of promoting safe driving habits and facilitating positive interactions between law enforcement and Devon residents. In 2019 the program expanded to include Devon FCSS and add in the promotion of mental wellbeing over the holiday season. “Community engagement and building positive relationships with the residents that we serve is so important for the Devon frontline and social services, said Ofc. Shane Loov, Community Peace Officer for the Town of Devon. “We are looking forward to this opportunity to spread some holiday cheer between the people of Devon and our emergency and social support services.” A big shout out to the Devon IGA for donating the candy canes for the 2022 checkstop season.
