5300 Community Events After meeting with the Town of Devon earlier this spring, members of Devon’s community groups have decided to join the Novice Program of Communities in Bloom. Communities in Bloom (CiB) is a Canadian non-profit organization that is committed to the development of civic pride, environmental responsibility and beautification through community involvement with a focus on enhancing the green spaces within a community. “Joining the Novice Program will allow Devon to participate without the pressure of competition,” said Kristin Walsh, manager of parks, recreation & culture for the Town of Devon. “We will definitely benefit from the feedback provided by the CiB judges on our progress towards becoming an “In Bloom” community.” As a Novice-level participant, community members chose the three evaluation criteria (out of a total of six), for which Devon would be judged. Devon’s three criteria will be: Environmental Awareness, Heritage Conservation, and Urban Forestry. Judges will be arriving in Devon on Wednesday, Aug. 2 to evaluate Devon between 8 a.m. and 12 p.m. Community members that are interested in CiB are invited to attend a workshop the afternoon of Aug. 2 from 1-4 p.m. at the Devon Community Centre at no charge. If you’d like to support this great initiative, please take some time this weekend to spruce up your front yards and help the Devon community make a great first impression on our visiting judges!
