3818 Community Events The Town of Devon and the Devon Communities in Bloom Committee are looking forward to the Communities in Bloom judges’ visit on Monday, July 15. Two judges, Marie Wenger and Emily Neis, will be greeted in Council chambers and then will embark on a tour of Devon accompanied by some members of the committee, Town councillors and Town staff. Communities in Bloom is a volunteer program with the goal of fostering environmental responsibility, civic pride, and beautification within a community with the important underlying principle of community involvement. This includes all parts of the community, whether it be municipal, private, corporate or institutional sectors. The Devon Communities in Bloom committee is comprised of ten individuals from diverse backgrounds who all share a common goal of wanting to see Devon reach its full potential. In the last year, the committee has: created a logo sponsored a Pollinator presentation sponsored a Repair Fair in conjunction with Devon’s Pitch-in Week begun to document our heritage trees organized a yard and garden tour created a Community Profile Book which highlights many aspects of the Devon Community The professionally trained judges will provide an objective look at the accomplishments of the entire community in six key categories: Tidiness, Environmental Action, Heritage Conservation (cultural and natural), Urban Forestry, Landscape, (hard and soft) and Floral Displays. The committee has been supported by the Town of Devon as Town Council has provided a budget and a resource person/facilitator, allowing the committee to proceed with its initiatives. Share Print
