Cougar sighting reported in south Devon

We've had a report of a cougar sighting near the ravine in the south end of Devon and have contacted Alberta Fish and Wildlife as they would be the contact in these instances. Fortunately, cougar attacks on humans are very rare.

If you see a cougar in the distance:

  • Do not run or turn your back
  • If it seems unaware of your presence, slowly back away and leave the area

If the cougar is close and showing aggressive behavior:

  • Do not run or play dead
  • Bring children and pets in close
  • Show the cougar you are not easy prey by making yourself look big and speaking loudly
  • If the cougar does make contact, fight back with whatever is available at your disposal

If you see a cougar near your property, please report it to Alberta Fish and Wildlife at 780-361-1250.
