2921 Community Events 2022 Utility Budget will see small increase to wastewater and bulk water rates Devon Council has passed the Town’s 2022 Utility Budget at their Nov 22, 2021, Council Meeting. The 2022 Utility Budget includes a 4.65% increase to wastewater rates and a $0.25 per m/3 increase at Devon’s Bulk Water Service Station while continuing to hold the line with zero increases to natural gas, water, and solid waste & recycling rates. Water Rate Devon’s water rate has remained stable at $13.46 basic charge/month and $1.55/m3 consumption rate since 2017 and will see no increases for 2022. Devon’s Bulk Water Service Station will see an increase of $0.25/m3 in 2022 to $5.00/m3. Wastewater Rate Devon’s wastewater rate has remained stable at $33.60 basic charge/month and $1.76/m3 consumption rate since 2018. Due to increases in the cost of operations at the new Wastewater Treatment Plant, Council has increased the wastewater rate by 4.65% to $35.00 basic charge/month and $1.85/m3 consumption rate starting in 2022. For the average customer, based on an annual consumption of 240 m3 this equals about $3.20/month or $38.40/year. Natural Gas Rate Devon’s natural gas rate has remained stable at $35.00 basic charge/month and $1.57/GJ distribution rate plus the energy rate charged to the Town for the natural gas since 2018 and will see no increases to the Town’s portion of this for 2022. Residents will however see an increase in their natural gas bills starting in 2022 due to an overall increase in natural gas rates in the international market. The Town purchases natural gas from Gas Alberta and charges residents the same rate it pays plus the basic and distribution charge each month. Solid Waste & Recycling Rate Devon’s solid waste & recycling rate has remained stable at $30.00 per month since 2018 and will see no increases for 2022. “Keeping our utility rates stable, while planning for Devon’s future was important for us as we entered our first Utility Budget as a new Council and I am proud to see that we were able to pass it with minimal increases for our residents,” said Mayor Craddock. “Next up is our 2022 Operational Budget Deliberations on Dec. 3 and 4 where Council will have the opportunity to work with Administration to approve a budget to address our priorities as we enter 2022.” Learn more about the Town’s utilities at devon.ca/utilities.
