This new Crime Map shares types of crime being reported to the RCMP and a relative location for where the crime took place. Types of crime displayed on the map include: Mischief Break & Enter Theft from Motor Vehicle Theft Over/Under $5,000 Theft of Motor Missing Person “Last fall our Council committed to working with the RCMP to better educate our residents on crime in the Devon community,” said Mayor Ralph. “The Devon Crime Map is a step in the right direction towards showing our residents what is actually being reported to our RCMP.” Communities across Canada have begun including the Crime Map software on their websites with St. Albert being the first in Alberta to have it up and running earlier this year. “The RCMP is always looking for new ways to inform the public of crimes occurring in their area,” said Jolene Nason, Detachment Commander for the Devon RCMP Detachment. “This information will better equip our residents to protect themselves from crimes, whether it be something as simple as locking their doors or leaving their porch light on to deter potential criminal activity in their area.” The RCMP hopes that the map will encourage citizens to report suspicious activity to the police which will strengthen their intelligence gathering capability and help make more arrests. The Devon Crime Map will share information from the previous 14 days for crimes reported in Devon to the RCMP.
