Town of Devon Council approved the Town’s 2019 tax rates at its regular Council Meeting on Monday, May 27. In total, Devon will see a 2.33 per cent municipal tax increase for 2019.

On December 10, 2018, Council approved the 2019 budget with a 1.35 per cent municipal tax increase. Due to lower overall assessment values, this had to be increased to 2.33 per cent to meet the budget.

In the 2019 budget, $14.9 million is allocated to municipal operating expenses and $10 million to capital expenses including infrastructure for the Wastewater Treatment Plant, roads, parks and equipment.

2019 Tax Rates

With a 2.33 per cent municipal tax increase, Devon’s average residential property will see an increase of approximately $45 to their property taxes from 2018. Property taxes are made up of municipal taxes, external requisitions, local improvement tax and the provincial education tax. The Town is obligated to collect the provincial education tax as set by the Government of Alberta as part of its property taxes.

“The 2019 budget demonstrates our Council’s commitment to providing efficient and effective services in the region and allows us the flexibility to make decisions to help meet the changing needs of our residents,” said Ray Ralph, Mayor for the Town of Devon. “We recognize that many residents and businesses are still struggling as a result of the economy and by keeping tax increases to a minimum, we hope to do our part to support all Devon ratepayers as much as possible.”
