4533 Community Events The Devon Fire Department is hosting their first annual Legs of Fire Stair Challenge on Sunday, Sept. 24 from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Legs of Fire stairs in Devon’s river valley. Members of the Devon Fire Department are inviting people of all levels of fitness in the Devon community to join in on the comradery, fitness and…fun? The event is intended to help raise awareness for a cause that affects many first responders: mental health. “The physical goal of participation is to climb a total of 6 full flights of the river valley stairs (each flight includes 304 steps),” said Devon Fire Chief Rob Main. “We also hope that participants will get to know their small town firefighters by sweating, breathing hard and feeling the burn with us!” For those who would like to participate, the event will begin at 9 a.m. at the top of the stairs near the corner of Rideau Street and River Drive. All participants are advised to eat a healthy breakfast and drink plenty of water in advance of the event; water and snacks will be provided to participants during the event as well. As this is an informal inaugural event, there is no registration or cost to participate. Donations will be accepted on behalf of, and given to, the Canadian Mental Health Association. -30- For more information contact: Kristin Walsh Devon Fire Department Firefighter Town of Devon P: 780-699-2573 E: kwalsh@devon.ca Justin Janke Communications Coordinator Town of Devon P: 780-987-8302 E: JJanke@devon.ca Share Print
