4977 Community Events Relaunch planned for Aug. 18 with reduced hours and new safety measures Effective August 18, 2020, the Emergency Department at the Devon General Hospital will be re-opening in a staged approach. The Emergency Department will be open 7 days a week from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. The Emergency Department was closed on April 20 to protect long-term care residents who are at high risk if exposed to COVID-19. As the department re-opens, new procedures are in place to keep those residents safe: The main entrance will be staffed 24 hours a day and those wishing to enter the hospital must follow all instructions given at the time of entry. Hospital staff will be limited to working in one unit of the hospital at a time. A temporary barrier has been constructed to limit emergency patients from the rest of the building. There will be no acute care beds available for the relaunch, and those who require them will be transferred to other facilities. “This is excellent news for Devon residents,” said Ray Ralph, Mayor for the Town of Devon. “As Alberta Health Services works to safely restore departments and services like this across the province, I want to thank each and every one of you who helped make this possible through the safety measures we undertook together.” Following the re-opening, Alberta Health Services will begin monitoring patient traffic and determine when 24 hour emergency services can resume at the Devon Hospital at a later date.
