733 Community Events Council provides first reading to Water Conservation Bylaw As many are likely aware, Alberta is experiencing drought conditions as we head into the spring. While Devon owns and operates its own Water & Wastewater Treatment Plants and there is adequate water stored in our reservoirs, we are being proactive to inform the community of the actions being taken by the Town should drought conditions persist into the spring/summer months. Water Conservation Bylaw On Mar. 25, 2024, Town Council provided first reading to Water Conservation Bylaw 1001/2024. This Bylaw outlines an Emergency Water Conservation Strategy that includes three levels of water restriction (Level I, II and III), and enforcement measures for each offence in contravention of the bylaw. Second and third reading of Water Conservation Bylaw 1001/2024 is scheduled for May 13, 2024. Water Restriction I Water Restriction I asks residents to limit their water usage and reduces all non-essential water use by the Town. This includes hydrant & water main flushing, washing of equipment, watering of trees & plants, firefighter training and any other non-essential use. Water Restriction II Water Restriction II implements a non-essential water ban on the Town. This also includes closing the Town’s Bulk Water Station and Centennial Spray Park until reservoirs levels are restored. Water Restriction III Water Restriction III includes all restrictions in level II plus the closure of privately owned Bulk Water Station(s), every effort made to limit water usage within the Town and an increased focus by the Town’s Peace Officers on water conservation offenses. The Town of Devon is not calling for water restrictions at this time, however we encourage residents to always practice water conservation whenever possible and to reduce usage if required. If restrictions are implemented, the community will be notified at the time of enactment and it will be shared on signage at all major local intersections, the Town’s social media and at devon.ca.
