3004 Community Events Restrictions on mass gatherings still to be followed during upcoming holidays The Town of Devon is encouraging residents to rethink their traditional holiday celebrations as COVID-19 continues to be a major public health emergency across the world. Holidays are typically a time when families get together and celebrate in their homes or at religious services. With several holidays upcoming including Easter, Passover and Ramadan, it is important for families to find ways to connect in a non-physical way. While it may be tempting to host Easter, people should not be getting together with anyone outside of their immediate household until the Chief Medical Officer gives mass gatherings the green light. This also extends to other individual celebrations that might be coming up soon including birthdays, anniversaries or any other celebrations. How can I celebrate Easter or any other upcoming holidays virtually? Video conferencing options Facebook Messenger – Works on smartphone and computers with camera capability Zoom – Works on smartphone and computer with camera capability (has free option) Web Ex – similar to Zoom and has a free option Facetime – Apple device users can use Facetime to connect with each other “We are all feeling the lack of social connectedness and it is very disappointing to not spend the holidays with our loved ones”, said Ray Ralph, Mayor for the Town of Devon. “Unfortunately, these measures are necessary right now as we all work together to flatten the curve and beat COVID-19.” Marci’s Easter Dinner On Easter Sunday (Apr. 12), Marci’ Bar & Grill is teaming up with Devon IGA to offer Easter dinner plate pick ups for those in need starting a 5 p.m. They ask residents to call ahead at 780-987-0244 to ensure they prepare enough food. Donations of any amount for the plate are appreciated, but not necessary. For more information about what Devon is doing to manage COVID-19, go to devon.ca/covid19.
