Fire Advisory asks residents to please continue to burn safely

UPDATED JUNE 20, 2023

With the cooler, wet weather, the Town of Devon has mowed down from a Fire Restriction to a Fire Advisory.

Open burning with issued fire permits and recreational fires contained in approved fire pits are acceptable. Smokers that burn solid fuel are permitted. Propane and gas-fueled cooking appliance are allowed. All fire permits are issued per the Forest and Prairie Protection Act.

The Advisory is implemented to remind the public of the risk within our community and that conditions can change. Please ensure smoking materials are disposed of in appropriate metal containers and kept wet. Do not throw cigarettes into backyard vegetation, on walking trails, or from vehicles onto the roadway. Do not extinguish cigarettes into flowerpots, planters, or organic material at any time.

Devon Fire Rescue will continue monitoring the situation and making necessary changes to ensure our community stays safe.

The Fire Advisory rating could change immediately, pending the fire conditions within the Town limits.

UPDATED JUNE 2, 2023

With the weather cooling down and some precipitation in the forecast, Devon's Fire Chief has changed the Fire Ban to a Fire Restriction for the Town.

During a Fire Restriction, approved recreational (backyard) fire pits, smokers, and other solid fuel appliances are permitted to be used.

Fire permits for open burning, and fireworks will be restricted until conditions improve.

Please ensure smoking materials are disposed of in appropriate metal containers and kept wet. Please do not throw cigarettes into backyard vegetation, on the walking trails or from vehicles onto the roadway. Also, do not extinguish cigarettes into flowerpots, planters, or organic material at any time.

Please, do your part to burn safely so we can give our Fire Services across the province a much-deserved break and get on track for a great, wildfire free summer.

ORIGINAL POST - MAY 1, 2023

The Town of Devon is now under a Fire Ban as there is an extreme risk of wildfire due to the dry conditions.

No outdoor fires are allowed, including open burning and fires contained in approved burn barrels, fire pits or charcoal barbecues. All outdoor fires must be extinguished immediately. The discharge of fireworks is not permitted.

All fire permits are suspended, and no new fire permits will be issued for the duration of the ban.

The public can use cooking and heating appliances fueled by liquid fuel such as propane or natural gas.

The Fire Ban will be in effect till conditions change. Fire Officials will continue to monitor the conditions.
