New addition will have dementia ward and room for 40 more seniors

Council has approved the sale of a portion of Town municipal reserve lands which are adjacent to Discovery Place to allow for the future expansion of Discovery Place, a housing facility dedicated for seniors in the community. This addition will begin construction in 2018 and provide 22 more rooms for seniors and a new dementia wing that will have 18 dedicated rooms for seniors that need additional care.

“This is big news for Devon’s senior community”, said Ray Ralph, Mayor for the Town of Devon. “This will help Devon meet the future needs of our seniors community and provide a new resource to our seniors that suffer from dementia and need the additional care.”

The Town will continue to work with the Community Garden Society to ensure the the gardens remain at that location by shifting the fence lines to accommodate both parties.

As a rezoning of these lands supporting this expansion is required, a public hearing will be held on April 9, 2018 at 7 p.m. at the Town Office’s Council Chambers.

Stay tuned as additional information about this project will be sent out as it progresses.
