3495 Community Events Restrictions in place to protect the health and safety of Devon residents Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Town of Devon is no longer permitting all garage and yard sales within Devon until further notice. This news may be disappointing for some, however the health and safety of Devon residents remains the top priority for Town Council and there are too many variables that would need to be considered to ensure both buyers and sellers are protected from COVID-19. “I know this is disappointing news for many residents who use garage/yard sales to promote reusing things around their homes that they no longer have any use for,” said Ray Ralph, Mayor for the Town of Devon. “Fortunately, there are a number of online options for our residents to more safely sell their items including through Facebook, Kijiji, eBay or other online selling sites.” Why can’t I have a garage/yard sale? Garage sales encourage mass gatherings and physical closeness Safety of patrons, sanitizer use, and disinfecting protocols cannot be easily monitored Garage sales deal with cash handling and provide an opportunity for surface disease transfer Garage sale goers often go from sale to sale or community to community Inside a garage may not allow for appropriate physical distancing Garage sale items are mainly used, previously handled and don’t have exterior wrapping or protective coverings. What can I do instead of a having garage/yard sale? Sell items online through with online payment and curbside pickup through: Facebook (marketplace, buy and sell groups etc.) Kijiji eBay Hold onto items until the curve is flattened and COVID-19 is no longer a concern.
