The expansion of the Dale Fisher Arena is a symbol of the growth seen by the town of Devon, and will provide new and current residents with a community meeting place for years to come,” said the Honourable Randy Boissonnault, Minister of Tourism and Associate Minister of Finance and Member of Parliament for Edmonton Centre, on behalf of the Honourable Dominic LeBlanc, Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs, Infrastructure and Communities. “Our government will continue to work with partners in Alberta and across the country to invest in local infrastructure, promote healthy lifestyles, and develop more inclusive communities.” Municipal Sustainability Infrastructure (MSI) Funding Through working with the province, the Town was also able to commit $6,130,958 in Municipal Sustainability Initiative (MSI) funding to support the expansion project, resulting in a total of $13.5M in federal and provincial funding towards the expansion. “Our government is committed to building strong, sustainable communities where residents can enjoy a variety of activities to improve their health and connect with each other,” said Rebecca Schulz, Minister of Municipal Affairs. “This wonderful project will deliver just that and shows what’s possible when all levels of government work together to help improve the lives of Albertans.” Other Funding The total cost for the expansion project is an estimated $18.5M and the Town has a fiscally responsible plan in place to complete the expansion with $13.5M coming from federal and provincial funding, $1.2M coming from Town reserves, a $1M cost sharing agreement with Parkland County and $2.9M being debentured over 30 years. “This arena expansion means so much to our community as it will double our capacity to host large-scale tournaments and provide economic benefits with more families drawn to Devon to play in the new arena,” said Mayor Craddock. “This facility would not be possible without the support of the federal and provincial governments, Parkland County and many other key community stakeholders and sponsors and I would like thank you all for your sticking with us throughout the last couple years to help get us here.” A ribbon cutting will be scheduled in mid-2024 once construction is complete to celebrate the opening of the expanded facility.
