Town announces winner of Orange Shirt Day design contest

Community Events

All are invited to participate in Orange Shirt Day gathering on Sept. 30

The Town of Devon is excited to congratulate local resident Serenity Caldwell for creating the winning design for the Orange Shirt Day design competition that ran earlier this year.

Residents were asked to show their commitment to Indigenous Communities, and support of residential school survivors by creating an original art design to be featured on this year’s Orange Shirts in Devon.

Orange Shirts featuring the original, unedited design submission by Caldwell are now available to order for $20, with proceeds being donated to Maskwacis Health Services. Community members can order a shirt by emailing the Town’s Indigenous Engagement Coordinator at

Shirts will be available for purchase and pre-ordered shirts will be ready for pick-up at the Sept. 30 Orange Shirt Day gathering.

Orange Shirt Day/National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

All are invited to join the Town of Devon on Sept. 30 at the Devon Community Centre to remember those who have survived the residential school system and those who did not.

The day will start with a Pipe Ceremony followed by a community walk in support of Indian Residential School (IRS) survivors, Burger Creeations food truck, presentations from IRS survivors, and a We Were Children film screening courtesy of the Devon Public Library and the National Film Board of Canada.

  • Date: Sept. 30, 2022
  • Time: 9 a.m. – 8 p.m.
  • Location: Devon Community Centre

The Pipe Ceremony and main gathering will take place outside (weather permitting), so attendees are encouraged to bring something to sit on, and dress appropriately. Ladies are asked to wear a skirt for the Pipe Ceremony or bring a blanket.
