2978 Community Events Municipal tax increase of 1.24 per cent approved for 2021 Devon’s 2021 Tax Rate Bylaw was approved by Council at their Tuesday, May 25 Council Meeting and Devon residents will see a 1.24 per cent municipal tax increase for 2021. For a household with a median assessed value of $305,000, the impact of a 1.24 per cent tax rate increase is an estimated decrease in municipal taxes, as well as taxes levied for requisitions, of about $8.98 per year. Property assessments are based off the calculated value of a property as of July 1 of the previous year. On Dec. 15, 2020, Council approved the 2021 budget with a 2.62 per cent municipal tax increase to account for the potential of a decrease in assessment caused by market value shrinkage in Devon due to the effects of COVID-19. Once the assessment process was complete, market value numbers came in higher than anticipated allowing for a lower tax rate to meet the Town’s Operational Budget. "Doing our part to keep municipal tax increases to a minimum, while maintaining our level of service to the community has been a priority of our Council for these past 4 years and we were fully prepared to expect a decrease in annual assessment once again for 2021,” said Ray Ralph, Mayor for the Town of Devon. “We were excited to learn that the impact on assessment was lower than expected and that we can continue to offer all of our services including parks upkeep and maintenance, recreation and community support services, waste and infrastructure services, emergency services and more for less than half the expected tax requirement in the 2021 Budget.” Tax Notices Tax notices will be mailed out to residential and non-residential property owners on May 31, 2021.
