2594 Community Events All utility account penalties and disconnects to be waived until September 30 The Town is extending its utility deferral program and will be waiving penalties on late payments until September 30, 2020 to provide support and flexibility to residents working to catch up on their finances due to COVID-19. There will also be no disconnects of any utilities during this period. Devon residents looking to defer their utilities beyond June can call the Town's Finance department at 780-987-8321 to make arrangements for an extended deferral. After September 30, a letter will be sent to Devon property owners who have outstanding arrears on their accounts with a deadline of November 30, 2020 for payment. Any amounts remaining on utility accounts after November 30 will be transferred to tax roll on December 31, 2020 or the property will be disconnected if it is a rental property. “While we are all excited for the economy to reopen as we move towards stage 3 of Alberta’s relaunch, we still have some residents that were more greatly impacted due to COVID-19” said Ray Ralph, Mayor for the Town of Devon. “While a deferral does not mean that we can forgive our utility accounts, it does allow for some flexibility for our residents who are struggling during these unprecedented times.” What if I can’t afford to settle my utility account by November 30, 2020? Residents who are still struggling to settle their utility accounts by November 30, 2020 are encouraged to contact the Town’s Finance department to discuss additional options at 780-987-8300.
