Bringing Transit to Devon

The Town has been working hard to bring transit opportunities to Devon and provide residents with a new option for connecting with employment opportunities, post-secondary education or shopping and entertainment in the Edmonton area.

In January 2020, Town of Devon Council voted to join a Regional Transit Services Commission, a group of Edmonton Metropolitan Region municipalities with a similar goal – to find affordable and efficient transit for their communities.

In January 2021, this Commission received approval from the Government of Alberta to legally form. The municipalities included in the newly formed Edmonton Metropolitan Transit Services Commission (EMTSC) include Devon, Edmonton, Spruce Grove, Stony Plain, Beaumont, Leduc, St. Albert, and Fort Saskatchewan. The EMTSC is currently aiming to bring a regional transit model that would service all eight municipalities by the fall of 2022.

In the meantime, the Town is working with the Edmonton Transit Service (ETS) to bridge this gap and offer transit for Devon residents this as early as this summer.

We Need Your Feedback

The Town is currently working with ETS on a pilot project to determine a route from Devon to the City of Edmonton that best suits the community's transit needs. There will be no charge during the pilot period to ride from Devon to the City and back, however ETS fares in Edmonton will apply for additional transit (LRT, busses to additional destinations).

Two routes are being explored and we need your feedback to determine which would be the most optimal for residents.

  • Option 1 - Devon to Century Park (South Edmonton LRT)
  • Option 2 - Devon to Edmonton International Airport Outlet Mall, then to Century Park

*Note: The pilot will run for 18 months and then will be re-evaluated to determine the level of service for the community.

Please take a minute to fill out our short survey and help us plan the best route to suit Devon’s needs. All results with go to Town Council to inform the final details for Devon’s ETS pilot this summer.

The survey will remain open until Monday, June 28 at 11:59 p.m. and results will go to Town Council in July.

Devon Transit FAQs

  • Option 1 - 35 mins
  • Option 2 - 45 mins
  • We are looking at 1-2 stops in Town on major collector roads
  • At this time with this service, we are not offering stop at Nisku. But residents can get off the bus at EIA and take City of Leduc connection to go to Nisku.
  • There will be no cost for riders during the pilot project. The rate structure for future years will be discussed with residents once the success of the pilot and an estimated ridership is determined.
  • Residents riding the bus will have to pay ETS fares for connection on other ETS services.
  • The fixed cost is $250,000/year for option 1 or 2
  • This is dependent on ridership and the success of the pilot project
