Devon Transit - Community Bus

Welcome to Devon Transit’s Community Bus – the "Folkswagon"! We’re proud to offer a friendly, accessible, door-to-door transportation service for residents.

Please review the information below to learn how to use the service, our rules, and how to book a ride. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out – we're happy to assist!


Services Offered

Weekly Service Schedule:

  • Mondays – Trips to Leduc
    • Pre-booking required
    • Operates approx. 9:00 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. (one trip in, one trip back)

  • Tuesdays and Thursdays – Service within Devon
    • On-demand rides between 9:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
    • Specific appointments (e.g., doctor, hairdresser) must be pre-booked.

Pricing (Round-Trip):

  • $5.00 – Devon (ride all day)

  • $12.00 – Leduc

Additional Services:

  • Food Bank Collection – Call 780-987-8308 to arrange.

  • Special Outings – Watch for updates in the Dispatch and on social media.

  • Rentals – See below for details.

How to Book a Ride

Pre-Booking for Appointments: If you have an appointment, please pre-book by noon one business day in advance.

Booking Notes:

  • If you do not receive a callback, your booking is not confirmed. Please follow up.

  • For non-appointment rides, call during service hours.

Phone Hours:
Calls are answered when drivers are safely able to do so. Otherwise, leave a voicemail.


Service Rules and Expectations

  • Ride-Share Service:
    This is a shared service (not a taxi). Efficiency is prioritized, and multiple stops can be made with one fare.

  • Be Ready:
    Please be ready at your door at your scheduled time.

  • No Open Food or Drink:
    Eating and drinking on the bus is not allowed.

  • Weather & Holidays:
    Service does not operate during inclement weather or statutory holidays.

  • Dress Appropriately:
    Riders must be fully clothed and wearing appropriate footwear. In winter, bring a coat, hat, and gloves.


Companion, Pets, and Mobility Equipment

Companions:

  • A support aid or companion rides for free.

Service Animals and Pets:

  • Registered service animals are welcome (contact driver in advance).

  • Pets must be confined in a carrier and be non-disruptive.

Strollers, Bikes, and Wagons:

  • Bikes and wagons are not permitted.

  • Collapsible strollers are allowed but must not have a child in them during lift use.

Child and Booster Seats:

  • Riders must provide their own CSA-compliant car seats if needed.

  • Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.

  • All riders must wear seatbelts where provided.


Passenger Safety and Respectful Behaviour

Respect for All:

  • Disrespectful, disruptive, or unsafe behaviour will not be tolerated.

  • Drivers have the right to refuse service at any time if safety is a concern.

Entering and Exiting the Bus:

  • Passengers must be able to safely board and exit without assistance, or have a companion to assist.

Using the Lift (Mobility Devices):

  • First-time users or those with a new device must confirm with the driver ahead of time.

  • Mobility devices must be in good working order.

  • Combined weight of passenger, mobility device, and packages must not exceed 750 lbs.

Motorized Vehicles:

  • Maximum size: 30 x 50 inches.

  • Not all scooters/wheelchairs fit – check with driver before booking.

  • Drivers secure mobility devices; passengers must follow driver instructions.

Non-Motorized Wheelchairs and Walkers:

  • Wheelchairs must have seatbelts, brakes, and secure hardware.

  • Walkers must be collapsible; passengers must be able to board independently or have assistance.


What Our Drivers Can Assist With

  • Operate the bus lifts and secure mobility devices.

  • Help with lap/shoulder belts.

  • Light guidance with a hand, forearm, or bicep (no weight-bearing assistance).

  • Hold doors at pick-up/drop-off locations if needed.


Bus Rentals – Rent the Folkswagon!

  • Private rentals are available (restrictions apply).

  • Accommodates up to 16 people.

  • Rentals must start and end in Devon.

  • Alcohol-related events are not permitted.

  • Book at least 72 hours in advance. Late cancellation fees apply.
